When making an Airbnb reservation, the Amenities section may state whether the property supports keyless entry. After a reservation is confirmed by the Main Host, Guests will receive a welcome email with instructions about how to unlock and lock the door during the reservation period. Check your junk mail if you did not receive the email in your inbox.
Your access to the home will depend on the setup the Host uses at the property. There are 3 possible ways to access an Airbnb that uses an Yale Smart Lock:
The different types of home access are outlined in the Types of Home Access section below.
If the property does not have a Keypad, or you would like to use your phone to unlock the door, you need to download the Yale App and link it to your Airbnb account before your stay. If the reservation confirmation email contains an entry code, you can skip this step and use the Keypad to enter the property if preferred.
After a reservation is confirmed by the Host, Guests will receive a welcome email with instructions about how to unlock and lock the door during the reservation period.
*Guests based outside of the United States: When creating an account, it is important that you are able to receive text messages from the United States. This is part of the account verification process. If you do not receive a text message during this process, you must make alternate arrangements to access the Airbnb home.
If the Host authorizes access using either the app or Smart Keypad Keypad, the guest has the option to use the entry code or the mobile app.
Access via App: Only the primary Airbnb guest receives automatic access. You will have to send your guests’ phone numbers to the host, so the host can grant access to your additional guests.
Access via Keypad: You can share the personal entry code with your travel partners, but it should not be shared with others who are not authorized to enter the home.
Auto-Lock: The host may also have the lock set to Auto-Lock after closing the door. The host may note this in any instructions available about the home. If Auto-Lock is enabled, you would not have to enter the keypad code to lock the door.
Keypad One Touch Lock: The host may also have the keypad set to One-Touch Lock. If so, when you leave the home, you can simply press the red, circular button to lock the door.
Please check with your host to see if these features are enabled during your stay.
